Meet Melanie

In high school, I dreamed of being a math teacher. But on the day I realized I would have to talk to people all day, every day, that dream died.

Instead, I got a degree in Business Administration and found myself working in Information Technology. Over the years, I discovered I loved both tech, art, and helping people solve problems.

Design seemed like the perfect mashup of my talents. It also paired nicely with my personal goals, and by going into business for myself,  I have the flexibility to be home when my kids are home, attend their soccer and volleyball games, and work as little or as much as each season of life allows. Since 2013, being a freelance designer has brought many amazing people and opportunities into my life.

I love helping people find creative solutions that are both functional and beautiful so that their business can flourish!

Favorites

Travel

When I’m not working and chauffeuring kiddos, you’ll find me hiking the canyons of Zion National Park, camping at the beach, or laughing my head off on Splash Mountain. Random fact: I started a travel blog.

Homegrown Peaches

I love peaches. They’re one of God’s greatest creations. There is nothing more amazing in the world than a homegrown Elberta peach.  If you know, you know.

A Little Healthy Competition

Game night?  Yes, please.  Board games, cards, dice…I love them all.  Volleyball, softball, kickball, football, tennis…those, too.

Meet Jill

I can read a tide chart, a tiramisu recipe, and a balance sheet. One part executive, one part entrepreneur, two parts budget nerd, and three parts mom/teacher.

When I became a single mom and wanted to teach my kids at home, most people thought I was crazy! That was the moment I realized I have a gift to share: the gift of making things doable for people. Sometimes that looks like having a conversation over a cup of coffee, filming a tutorial, or rolling up my sleeves and digging into the backend of a website. In my professional career, I have partnered with several nonprofit organizations to bring a sense of order and stability to an otherwise capricious business model. Trading chaos for simplicity is my jam.

I love helping clients cut through the noisy clutter of half-baked ideas and offering simple, sound solutions that make their business dreams a reality.

Favorites

Tacos

Especially long conversations with friends over tacos. There’s nothing more uniting (or humbling) than deep belly laughs with cilantro between your front teeth.

Kayaking

Paddling out into the middle of a lake and sitting there, bobbing slightly in the waves, is one of the most peaceful, serene experiences on earth. Recommended for stress relief, long talks with God, and slightly sunburnt shoulders.

Adventure

Whether it’s grabbing a last-minute camping reservation or spending hours crafting a road trip through the English countryside, adventure is my middle name. However, I like to be semi-prepared for spontaneity. Is that a thing?

“Melanie is able to capture the essence of our choral repertoire selections and convey the feeling of the concert to our audience through her dynamic graphic design. She is always responsive to our suggestions, and it has been a pleasure to work with her.

Melanie recently brought Jill Whaley on board as a consultant and project manager. Jill has helped [Canzona] reach a wider audience, kept us connected with our patrons throughout the pandemic with creative newsletters, stories and special projects, and is helping us plan community collaborations for the upcoming season.”
